The Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Studies Group (MSB), a sub-committee of the Southeast Asia Council of the AAS, invites interested attendees at AAS 2019 to come to its annual business meeting, Saturday, March 23, 1:15 to 2:45pm in Plaza Court 4, Sheraton Denver Downtown.
MSB is a vibrant and growing group of cross-disciplinary scholars from North America and beyond with research interests in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. At AAS 2019, Malaysia will be represented more than ever before, with several sponsored panels that focus on the vast political and financial shifts which have occurred in the past year, and on key developments in East Malaysia.
The annual business meeting is a key event for networking and learning about opportunities and research in the MSB region. MSB will also be discussing plans for AAS 2020, which include sponsoring “REVISIONING 2020,” panels and roundtables that revisit Prime Minister Mahathir’s “Vision 2020” and the Malaysia that emerged since he first coined the slogan. MSB will also award its annual prizes—the Lent Prize for the best paper presented at the previous AAS conference and the Provencher Travel Award to an attendee presenting at the current conference.
MSB welcomes members and non-members to the meeting. Dues-paying members are requested to make their annual contribution of $20 at the meeting. Pre-registration for #AAS2019 in Denver, Colorado will close on February 21. After a successful introduction of GREEN registration rates in Washington, D.C. earlier this year, we are pleased to offer them again in Denver. Those who GO GREEN will save $10 on their conference registration; they will NOT receive a copy of the print program.

The Call for Proposals is now open for the 2019 Asian Studies on the Pacific Coast (ASPAC) regional conference, which will be held at St. Mary’s College of California, June 7-9. The proposal submission deadline is January 31, 2019. ASPAC also holds two graduate student paper prize competitions, with monetary awards—for consideration, submit your work to the prize committee by May 1, 2019.
