Congratulations to AAS Member Haun Saussy, University Professor of the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago, who has been awarded the 2018 Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for Comparative Literary Studies by the Modern Language Association of America. Dr. Saussy received the honor for his recent book, The Ethnography of Rhythm: Orality and Its Technologies (Fordham University Press, 2016).

The Southeast Conference of the Association for Asian Studies (SEC/AAS) will hold its annual meeting this coming weekend, January 12-14, 2018, at the University of South Carolina. AAS Vice President Anne Feldhaus will deliver the keynote address.

Asian Studies on the Pacific Coast (ASPAC) is now accepting proposals for its next annual conference, which will be held June 8-10, 2018 at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. Applicants may submit proposals for individual papers, organized panels, and roundtable discussions via the conference website. The regular submission deadline is February 28, 2018, with acceptances sent by March 31, 2018. For applicants who cannot meet the regular deadline, ASPAC will continue to accept submissions until March 31, 2018 and provide notification of acceptance as soon as possible thereafter.

The Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA) will begin accepting proposals for its 2018 conference on February 1, with a final submission deadline of April 16. This year’s meeting will be hosted by Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota and take place October 19-20. Please see the conference website for more information.

AAS 2018 News & Notes

A reminder that pre-registration for AAS 2018 closes on February 26; anyone who has not registered by that date will have to do so on-site at the conference in Washington, D.C. This year we are pleased to offer GREEN registration rates for the first time. Those who select the GREEN option at registration elect not to receive a print version of the conference program and will save $10 on their registration fees. GREEN conference participants can use the AAS 2018 mobile app, online program, and/or PDF of the conference program to view and organize their schedules; all versions of the program will be available soon.
