Fundraising for Conference Grants

New! Annual Conference Travel Grant Fund

Current Campaign Launch Goal: $100,000

Attention all AAS members and donors! Get ready to make a lasting impact and help shape the future of the Association and the Annual Conference. Introducing the Annual Conference Travel Grant Fund, an initiative designed to broaden participation and make attendance possible for those who may not otherwise have the means to join us.

Attending the AAS Annual Conference for the first time is typically the start of a long career in Asian Studies and membership in AAS. Contributions to this fund will help junior scholars attend the meeting, participate in panels, and meet colleagues and senior scholars in the field dispersed throughout the world.

We believe that the power to create change lies within our community. That’s why we’re calling on each and every AAS member and donor to contribute to this transformative endeavor. By donating just $20, you can help us reach our initial campaign goal of $100,000. With this milestone achieved, we will have the ability to fund travel to the Annual Conference for years to come, enabling countless AAS members to engage, learn, and collaborate.

But we need your help to make this vision a reality. Your immediate donation will assist us in awarding grants for the upcoming 2024 Seattle Annual Conference. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference. Together, we can ensure that the AAS Annual Conference becomes a truly inclusive and transformative event.

We understand that everyone’s financial situation is unique, which is why we now offer you the flexibility to choose the donation option that best suits your preferences. Whether you prefer to make a one-time contribution or set up a recurring payment, your support will have a lasting impact on the Annual Conference Travel Grant Fund.

Additional Conference Related Funding

Young Scholars Fund

The Young Scholars Fund encourages early career scholars to attend and present their research at AAS conferences. Donations made to this fund will be help support the Graduate Student Stipends distributed to all graduate students accepted to present on the Annual Conference program. Each student receives a minimum of $200, but depending on the number of students or funds available the amount can vary—up to $300 per student. The fund also supports AAS Dissertation Workshops.

International Exchange Fund

The AAS International Exchange Fund makes it possible for the Association to provide travel subsidies for active panel participants from non-high-income, non-OECD countries to attend both the AAS Annual Conference and the AAS-in-Asia conference.

Annual Conference Childcare Fund

Conference participation can be vital for networking, building relationships, and exchanging ideas. However, participation can be difficult for parents, guardians, and caretakers who have to worry about childcare. The AAS is committed to providing a productive and inclusive environment at the Annual Conference. Donations to the Annual Conference Childcare Fund help to offset the cost of securing professional childcare services onsite at the conference. Support your colleagues with a donation today.
